This month we’ll meet some Upstate Industry professionals and see what they’re drinking. Enjoy!
Mike Evans-Liberty Tap Room Greenville General Manager
Mike moved to Greenville recently from Columbia and has been with the TBonz Liberty group for 6 years and enjoys golf and basketball. When Mike is just kicking back enjoying wine his everyday favorite is:
Big Fire Pinot Noir McMinnville, Oregon- Wild raspberry, cranberry passion fruit all wrapped together. With a very appealing silky, satin texture reminds Mike of Victoria Secret lingerie minus the lace. If Mike is having a meal and wants a wine to stand up to his diverse culinary skills he chooses:
Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles, California-offers aromas of ripe red fruit, followed by similar vibrant and rich berry flavors. Excellent structure, while maintaining a soft approachability reflective of Paso Robles. If you are out on a date with Mike and he orders you a bottle of:
Bitch Grenache- Southeastern Australia- Brick red with pink hues. Sweet boiled lollies, confectionary sugar ,with cinnamon spice on the nose, good length and weight of finish.
Then perhaps you might like to think about grabbing a cab (Yellow Cab 233-6666) or if you live downtown a Rickshaw might be easier to find.
Frampton Ash-Wild Wing Café Greenville General Manager
Frampton when not seen roaming Main Street in search of good times likes to drink:
Smoking Loon Pinot Noir-California- shows really dark fruit flavor, full of marionberry and bourbon soaked cherries. A touch of French oak gives this wine body and balance and it finishes with just a hint of cassis and blueberry jam. Even though Frampton doesn’t follow this recommendation because it hurts the wine buzz, the winemaker suggests a Spinach salad with dried cranberries and a raspberry vinaigrette as a good food pairing choice. Frampton also enjoys the bubbles when he gets a chance and one of his favorites is:
Zardetto Prosecco- Conegliano, Italy- Fresh fragrant aromas of peach, citrus and tropical fruits. Delicately soft and harmonious on the palate. Zesty and stylish, prosecco is the quintessential sparkling aperitif wine and can be served along side a wide array of foods.
Lauren Sanyi -Greenco Beverage Craft Beer Specialist
Lauren is a Classic Jersey chick, except that she is special because not only is she a Jersey chic, but she went to Jersey chick finishing school in Sumter South Carolina. Don’t pre-judge her even with her tragic background she still has most of her teeth and believe it or not she doesn’t even sport big hair. Lauren sells beer for Greenco Beverage Company and loves it. Most often when you see her out she’ll have a Miller Lite in hand but when Lauren wants to cool off with some vino she reaches for:
Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc-Marlborough New Zealand - A full flavored, medium bodied wine, with the abundance of archetypal currant and gooseberry flavors, that linger on the dry clean finish. Food pairings the Lauren likes to whip up when relaxing on steamy Berea evening might include - Summer salads, Shellfish and lobster and, her favorite, the famous Marlborough Green Shell Mussels.
Bitch Bubbly- Southeastern Australia- similar to Bitch Grenache but jammier and with bubbles. This is the wine for all you paranoid White Zinfandel drinkers who are tired of always getting busted looking around the bar wondering why everyone is pointing and laughing at you.
Laurens tip of the day- stop ordering white zin and start ordering bitch bubbly instead! It might not make you as cool as Lauren but you can still pretend and that is a least a start. If you are fortunate enough to spend time with Lauren just hope that the waitress doesn’t bring you a glass of:
Fat Bastard Chardonnay-Vin de Pays, France- Expressive stone fruit aromas with soft floral undertones. Well balanced with citrus and acacia notes. Soft oak gives warmth and balance to the mid palate and fresh minerality on the finish. But if she does just say Thank you sit back take in stunning view and contemplate which exercise routine you would like to begin in the morning.
Salute.
