Generosity of the Service Industry Shines
The Service Industry of the Upstate answered the call to fill a truck with food for the needy this holiday season. The event was held at the Blu Martini and hosted by Industry Magazine. Food was provided by Bertolo’s Pizza on Main St. in downtown Greenville.
Guests were asked to bring a donation of 2 non-perishable food items or $2.00. Hundreds of pounds of canned goods and dry food was collected as well as $120 in cash.
The truckload of food was donated to the Triune Mercy Center at 222 Rutherford St. in Greenville. Triune is an interdenominational mission church that reaches out to the homeless and needy in our area. The mission gives out about 60 large boxes of food each week and also supplies the homeless with hundreds of “pop-top bags” which contain items that don’t require a can opener such as fruit cups and Vienna sausage. They also provide hot meals for the homeless on Saturday nights and Lunch and dinner for hundreds on Sundays. If you’d like to get involved either by volunteering or donating food, money, clothes or hygiene products call Pat Parker at 864-233-8020 or visit www.thetriunemercycenter.org
The door money was donated to the Heartstep Foundation, a non-profit public charity established to facilitate community projects that directly benefit the elderly, orphans, terminally ill and the underprivileged. Heartstep also coordinates unique community projects to assist with disaster relief and undefined needs as they arise within our community. To donate or get involved visit www.heartstep.org
